These medical illustrations highlight the
pathophysiological mechanisms that lead to the development of aortic
emergencies. These are just a few illustrations from a series of acute aortic
syndromes and include aortic dissection, penetrating aortic ulcer, and
intramural hematoma. Each illustration has been displayed in longitudinal and
axial views to aid the radiologist who are used to viewing vasculature in
different planes, (angiographers usually read studies in the longitudinal
plane, while computed tomography specialists read traditional CT studies in an
axial plane. These illustrations were produced for a scientific poster exhibit
viewed by radiology professionals.
